The MYKITA Brand Story
The founder and creative director Moritz Krueger at MYKITA is committed to enterprise and authenticity. MYKITA iconic feature of their design is their patented temple hinge. They have abandoned all unnecessary parts in glasses crafting including screws. Their hinge technology is not only functional but part of the design of the frames. It lets a person see how the product is put together and is the perfect way to show off how minimal MYKITA frames are.
Eyeglasses produced by MYKITA showcase a base of tradition and classic design, accented with features that bring the best of the past into the present. Each frame is made of either the highest grade acetate or surgical quality steel, which gives their products a signature flexibility and lightness. The material used for their lightweight and durable construction is sheets of stainless steel renowned for its strength, resilience and unfading sheen – a sustainable product by virtue of its longevity. The steel sheets consist of 90% recycled content and offers the perfect blend of malleability and tensile strength required for our eyewear design.
MYKITA glasses are manufactured in the heart of Berlin at the company’s iconic MYKITA Haus. Their location houses every process of the business from the design and manufacturing, to the finishing touches and the marketing. The holistic approach MYKITA has chosen is rare in the eyewear business and is evident in the meticulous attention to detail displayed in each design the brand produces.
The brand has partnered with international artists and designers to create truly memorable collections including Damir Doma, Bernhard Willhelm, Marios Schwab, Martin Margiela and Alexandre Herchcovitch. The decisions that MYKITA have made in the choice of the artists and designers they collaborate with are testament to the exclusivity and uncompromising ideals of the brand.
The Collection
COLLECTION NO1 forms the foundation for the MYKITA DNA. The stainless steel frames are cut out of sheet metal and, in similar style to the Japanese principle of origami, then bent and folded to become a three-dimensional shape. The openly displayed snap-temple hinge symbolizes the fundamental design principle of MYKITA where technical meets aesthetic.
MYKITA’s COLLECTION NO2 plays with colours, silhouettes and line widths. All frames are made using acetate – a material comprised of cotton and coloured pigments. The cutting-edge hinge concept developed by MYKITA forms an aesthetically appealing connection between the glasses frame front and temple arm.
The DECADES concept pays homage to iconic styles from the 20th century, a huge pool of inspiration for shapes and styles, DECADES re-interprets timeless classics in a modern way. From classic Panto frames to the bold contours of the 1960s and the supersized form vocabulary of the 70s and 80s. The translation of the models into MYKITA’s ultra-thin stainless-steel concept gives this collection an unprecedented, contemporary look.
The LITE series by MYKITA introduces its lightest stainless steel frame concept to date, averaging just 12 grams in weight. The filigree stainless steel frame comprises just three parts, and is distinguished by its radical simplicity.
