COVID-19: Can I still safely wear my contact lenses?

Our fellow eye nerd friends at the University of Waterloo released a statement on March 16, 2020 that, “there is no evidence that contact lens wear should be avoided by healthy individuals, or that contact lens wearers are more at risk for a coronavirus infection compared to spectacle wearers.”

The quick and clean facts are

  • Contact lens Wear is Safe

  • Proper Hand Washing is Essential

  • Disinfect Contact Lenses

  • Disinfect Spectacles and Glasses - see our video by Dr. Steve on Instagram showing 3 easy ways to do this here

  • Discontinue Lens Wear Only if Sick.

  • Spectacles are Not Proven to Offer Protection.

Thank you to good friends at the University of Waterloo for helping us be safe. We salute you!
